Severe Thunderstorm Potential Expected Across Grand Strand Saturday Afternoon

Grand Strand residents, weekend visitors, and outdoor enthusiasts should prepare for unsettled weather on Saturday afternoon, August 15, as strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across the region.

According to meteorologists, storm activity is anticipated to begin developing around 2:00 PM on Saturday. The most intense weather and heaviest rainfall are expected to occur during the late afternoon and early evening hours, specifically between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the northernmost counties of the region under a Level 2 (slight) risk for severe storms. The remainder of the Grand Strand area, including all of Horry County, is currently under a Level 1 risk zone. While severe conditions are not guaranteed across every neighborhood, any storms that do form have the potential to bring heavy downpours, strong wind gusts, and localized severe impacts.
