Heat Advisory Issued as Dangerous Heat Wave Affects the Grand Strand

A Heat Advisory has been issued for Horry and Georgetown counties as a major heat wave hits the Grand Strand area. The intense heat and high humidity will bring dangerous conditions through the remainder of the work week, lasting through Friday, August 14.

Afternoon air temperatures will climb into the lower 90s along coastal beaches and into the middle 90s inland. Extreme humidity levels will drive heat index values—how hot it actually feels—up to between 107 and 110 degrees in advised areas, with surrounding locations reaching feel-like values of around 105 degrees each afternoon.

Additional weather advisories or heat warnings are expected through Friday as highs remain elevated across the region. While an isolated thunderstorm cannot be entirely ruled out on any given afternoon, most area residents and visitors will experience drier conditions alongside the intense building heat.

Local residents, outdoor workers, tourists, and business operators across North Myrtle Beach and the broader Grand Strand should take immediate precautions. Health officials advise limiting strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon heating hours, staying in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible, and drinking plenty of water to maintain hydration.

Some relief is projected for the upcoming weekend. A weak cold front will approach the region on Saturday, August 15, increasing the likelihood of scattered showers and thunderstorms. This weather shift will break the extreme conditions, bringing coastal temperatures down into the upper 80s to around 90 degrees.
