NWS Issues Marine Weather Statement for Offshore Waters North of Little River

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Marine Weather Statement for offshore coastal waters, tracking showers capable of producing elevated winds and sudden localized hazards on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

Doppler radar identified a line of showers moving northeast at 25 knots. These offshore cells are capable of generating gusty winds around 30 knots, along with localized heavy downpours and building wave heights. Forecasters caution that these marine storms also carry the potential to produce waterspouts, and a Special Marine Warning may be issued if severe conditions develop.

The affected primary impact zones include coastal waters stretching from Surf City to Cape Fear, North Carolina out 20 nautical miles, as well as offshore waters from Surf City to Little River Inlet, South Carolina extending from 20 to 60 nautical miles offshore. Specific marine locations along the path include Wr2 and Topsail Boxcars.

This advisory directly impacts recreational boaters, commercial mariners, and charter captains operating in or heading into offshore waters north and east of the Grand Strand. While the primary shower track remains offshore, mariners in adjacent waters from Little River Inlet should stay alert to changing marine conditions and rapidly building seas.

Boaters operating in the designated offshore zones are advised to seek safe harbor immediately until the storms clear. If you are caught on open water, prepare for deteriorating visibility and elevated wind gusts. Ensure all crew members are wearing properly fitted life jackets and continue monitoring local marine weather channels for further updates or warnings.
