Small Craft Advisory Issued for Grand Strand Coastal Waters Through Monday Evening

The National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina, has issued a Small Craft Advisory for coastal waters along the Grand Strand and southeastern North Carolina. The advisory will remain in effect through 8:00 PM EDT on Monday, August 3, 2026.

Boaters operating in ocean waters from Surf City, North Carolina, down to the South Santee River, South Carolina—including the offshore zones out to 20 nautical miles around Little River Inlet and Murrells Inlet—will encounter hazardous marine conditions throughout the day.

Forecasters expect southwest winds ranging from 15 to 20 knots, with wind gusts reaching up to 25 knots. Ocean seas are projected to build between 4 and 6 feet. These steep seas and gusty winds will create choppy, rough waters that present significant hazards for smaller vessels and recreational craft navigating through local inlets and open waters.

The advisory directly affects recreational mariners, charter captains, and commercial operators planning to head out onto the coastal ocean along North Myrtle Beach and the broader Grand Strand region.
