Small Craft Advisory Issued for Grand Strand Coastal Waters Through Monday

The National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina, has issued a Small Craft Advisory that will remain in effect until 8:00 PM EDT on Monday, August 3, 2026. The advisory covers all local coastal waters extending out 20 nautical miles, including the stretch from Little River Inlet to Murrells Inlet, as well as waters from Murrells Inlet south to the South Santee River. The impacted zone also stretches north from Little River Inlet to Cape Fear and Surf City, North Carolina.

Mariners operating along the Grand Strand can expect persistent southwest winds ranging from 15 to 25 knots, with gusts reaching up to 30 knots. Offshore seas are forecasted to build between 4 and 7 feet throughout the advisory period. These conditions will create elevated chop and rough waters across local inlets and open coastal waters.

The advisory directly impacts recreational boaters, charter captains, and commercial mariners operating smaller vessels. Operating a small craft in these marine conditions can be hazardous, as choppy seas and sudden wind gusts increase the risk of capsizing or taking on water.
