North Myrtle Beach Completed 2026 Citizen's Academy Program

Earlier this year, the City of North Myrtle Beach hosted its 2026 Citizen's Academy, a free municipal education program designed to give local residents an inside look at city operations, administration, and public infrastructure.

The spring 2026 series began on March 5 and ran through April 16, concluding with a graduation ceremony during the May 4 City Council meeting. Weekly afternoon sessions were held on Thursdays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, starting at City Hall on Second Avenue South before taking participants on behind-the-scenes tours across the community.

The multi-week program offered participants direct access to department heads and city facilities. Early sessions in March focused on executive administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, Public Information, and the Public Works Department. Attendees toured infrastructure assets including pump stations, water tanks at Little River Neck Road and Main Street, the solid waste transfer station, and the local wastewater treatment plant.

Later sessions highlighted the Parks and Recreation Department, covering sports tourism, ground maintenance, Keep North Myrtle Beach Beautiful, local beach services, and tours of both the Aquatic & Fitness Center and the NMB Park & Sports Complex. The academy wrapped up with presentations from Planning and Development, Zoning, Finance, the City Clerk, and guided tours of local police and fire public safety facilities.

Participation was capped at 30 residents to ensure manageable tour sizes and interactive sessions. Residents were required to submit applications and a signed Hold Harmless Agreement prior to the start of the program in late February.

Because this session has already taken place and concluded, registration for the 2026 academy is closed. Residents interested in future sessions should keep an eye out for upcoming announcements from the City of North Myrtle Beach for future municipal academy opportunities.
