Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms increasing along the coast from the tip of Cape Fear up through Surf City. Forecasters expect some of these storms to move eastward across the coastal and offshore waters over the afternoon hours on Saturday, August 15.
Mariners operating in or heading toward these waters should prepare for localized hazards. The thunderstorms are capable of producing wind gusts reaching 30 knots or higher, locally elevated wave heights, and frequent lightning strikes.
Boaters in the impacted areas are advised to seek safe harbor immediately until the storms pass. Anyone caught on open water should prepare for quickly deteriorating conditions by ensuring all passengers are wearing properly fitted life jackets and securing loose equipment onboard.
