Conway Coffin Races Returning Downtown on October 17

Historic downtown Conway will host the second annual Graveyard Grand Prix Coffin Races on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Hosted by the Conway Chamber of Commerce and presented by Radial, the Halloween-themed event brings unique, human-powered "coffin" races through the downtown streets, with official action starting at 10 a.m.

The community celebration is open to spectators of all ages across the Grand Strand and offers two distinct race divisions. The Competitive Racing Division features a 16-team double-elimination tournament where teams compete head-to-head for the overall championship title. For groups focused primarily on design and crowd interaction, the Spirit Division provides featured showcase runs throughout the day, allowing entries to compete specifically for Spirit Division awards. Costumes are highly encouraged for participants, with creative entries eligible to win awards.

To participate, each registered team must consist of five people aged 16 or older: four pushers and one rider designated as "The Ghost." Every custom coffin must be built with four wheels, provide a secure riding position for the rider, and be capable of being safely guided and controlled on the course. Event organizers mandate pre-race inspections for every entry before competition begins. Helmets are required for all riders and strongly encouraged for pushers, and teams must attend a mandatory pre-race briefing prior to race day.

Beyond the street races, downtown visitors and families can explore a variety of ground activities throughout the venue. The festival site will feature local food trucks, Halloween-themed vendors, activities for kids, spooky performers, and live music. Official Graveyard Grand Prix t-shirts will also be available for purchase on site.

Team entry costs $75, and space is limited. Registration is currently open, and race organizers expect available spots to fill quickly. Community members, local business groups, and visitors planning to enter a team or attend as spectators should register or plan their trips to downtown Conway ahead of the October 17 event date.
