Atlantic Beach Hosts Black Pearl Market Following Leadership Certification

The Town of Atlantic Beach is inviting Horry County residents and visitors to gather for the Black Pearl Market on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026. The community event will run from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 2910 30th Ave. S. and will feature local vendors, food, and opportunities for local connection.

The weekend gathering arrives at a historic moment for the town, following the recent resolution of a protracted legal challenge surrounding the November 2023 mayoral election. On June 17, 2026, the South Carolina Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling confirming Josephine Isom as the winner. The municipal election commission certified the results on June 29, clearing the way for Isom to take the oath of office on July 6 at the Atlantic Beach Community Center.

Since taking office, the town government has taken steps toward administrative stability. Town leaders approved a provisional budget to maintain municipal operations while finalizing the fiscal year 2027 budget. Additionally, the town council appointed Carla Taylor as mayor pro tem and named Titus Leaks as town manager.

Town leadership continues to address municipal infrastructure and public safety needs. Atlantic Beach currently relies on Horry County police officers for routine patrols while town officials work to re-establish a local police department. Mayor Isom has identified rebuilding law enforcement services as a priority and has begun interviewing candidates for leadership positions.

Founded in 1934 as a historic oceanfront haven for Black families during segregation, the small four-by-ten-block municipality remains focused on economic development and historic preservation. The Black Pearl Market offers Grand Strand residents an opportunity to support local vendors and experience the community as town leaders move forward with routine governance.
