North Myrtle Beach City Council to Discuss Food Truck Ordinance Framework

The North Myrtle Beach City Council will hold a public workshop on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. to discuss establishing potential regulations for food trucks within city limits. North Myrtle Beach remains one of the last major municipalities along the Grand Strand without a formal ordinance governing mobile food vendors.

The meeting agenda focuses specifically on whether to draft rules for food truck operations. City workshops serve as an initial discussion between council members and city staff rather than a formal voting session. No draft ordinance language was published ahead of the meeting, and public comment will only be permitted if authorized by council during the workshop.

Establishing a framework could determine where mobile vendors operate, how close they can park to brick-and-mortar restaurants, and whether they can set up on public or private property. Currently, food trucks in North Myrtle Beach operate primarily during special city-sanctioned events due to the lack of daily permitting rules.

Other Grand Strand municipalities have already established local frameworks. Myrtle Beach operates under a restricted permit system first established in 2017, while Horry County requires food trucks to maintain a 300-foot buffer from established restaurant entrances. Smaller nearby municipalities, including Aynor and Atlantic Beach, have adopted individual permitting processes to allow mobile vendors on public property or at events.

Residents and local business owners can attend the workshop in person or view the proceedings via the city's official YouTube livestream. Council's initial guidance will determine if city staff moves forward with drafting a formal ordinance for future public hearings and votes.
