Marine Weather Statement Issued for Grand Strand Coastal Waters

The National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina, has issued a marine weather statement for coastal and offshore waters extending along the Grand Strand and Southeastern North Carolina. The alert covers coastal waters from Little River Inlet to Cape Fear, as well as offshore marine zones extending out 20 to 60 nautical miles from Little River Inlet down to South Santee River.

Doppler radar tracking indicates strong thunderstorms moving east at 30 knots along a line near Wr4 to southwest of the Sunset Mid Shelf Buoy. These storms are capable of producing gusty winds reaching around 30 knots, localized higher waves, and frequent lightning strikes across the designated marine tracks.

Local mariners, commercial fishermen, and recreational boaters operating in or near Little River Inlet and surrounding ocean waters should take immediate precautions. The National Weather Service advises boaters to seek safe harbor until the storm line passes. Those caught on the open ocean should prepare for deteriorating water conditions and ensure all crew members are wearing properly fitted life jackets.

Paying close attention to sudden marine weather changes is critical along the Grand Strand coast. Fast-moving thunderstorm lines can quickly create hazardous sea conditions and visibility risks for craft navigating inlet ocean passages.
