Humidity and Daily Afternoon Storms Return to the Grand Strand Through Sunday

Higher humidity and daily rain chances are returning to North Myrtle Beach and the broader Grand Strand starting Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, and continuing through Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026. After a brief stretch of more comfortable air, a southerly wind flow is pushing tropical moisture back into coastal South Carolina, bringing a return to typical late-summer conditions.

Coastal areas across the Grand Strand will see daytime high temperatures in the mid-80s through the period, while inland areas will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s. The increasing moisture levels will make conditions feel considerably muggier, with the highest humidity levels expected over the weekend.

Isolated pop-up showers and thunderstorms are expected each afternoon. Rain chances begin at 30 percent on Thursday and Friday before storm coverage increases on Saturday and Sunday. The peak humidity over the weekend will create conditions favorable for locally heavy downpours during afternoon thunderstorms.

Meteorologists note that while afternoon rain is anticipated each day, it will not be a continuous all-day washout. Residents, weekend commuters, outdoor workers, and tourists planning outdoor events do not necessarily need to cancel outdoor plans, but they should remain aware of rapidly changing weather conditions. Afternoon downpours can create temporary standing water on local roads, including U.S. 17, and disrupt beach trips or outdoor recreation.
