Heat Advisory Issued for Grand Strand as Heat Index Reaches 108

A Heat Advisory was issued for the Grand Strand on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, as high temperatures combined with elevated humidity to push heat index values up to 105 to 108 degrees during the afternoon and early evening hours.

The excessive heat warning affected residents, outdoor workers, visitors, and families across coastal and inland areas. Forecasters warned that peak warmth would continue into the end of the workweek, with inland temperatures rising into the mid-to-upper 90s and coastal areas reaching the lower 90s. Higher humidity levels were expected to push heat index readings to between 105 and 110 degrees on Thursday and Friday.

With extreme heat building across the region, officials recommended taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, staying well-hydrated, and limiting direct sun exposure during afternoon hours. The heat advisory also prompted warnings for those managing outdoor labor, outdoor chores, or youth sports practices.

Looking ahead to the Labor Day holiday weekend, warm and humid conditions were expected to remain high through Saturday, bringing heat indices between 105 and 110 degrees alongside scattered afternoon storms driven by an approaching weak cold front. While storm coverage was anticipated to peak Saturday afternoon with risks of frequent lightning and heavy rain, additional scattered showers were forecast for Sunday before cooler mid-80s temperatures and lower rain chances arrived by Labor Day on Monday.
