Grand Strand Locals Face October Choice Between Beach Days and Fall Football

Grand Strand residents heading into the weekend of October 3–4 will be able to enjoy warm autumn weather alongside a packed slate of high school, college, and professional football. Forecasts call for mostly sunny conditions with highs near 82 degrees on Friday and around 81 degrees over the weekend. Saturday carries a minor 30 percent chance of scattered showers, making early-morning radar checks recommended before heading down to the sand.

With post-Labor Day seasonal rules now active, oceanfront access across Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, and Horry County is much friendlier to locals. Dogs, bicycles, and tents up to 12 by 12 feet are permitted on the beach during daytime hours. Ocean temperatures remain warm at around 80 degrees, but swimmers should exercise extra caution: city lifeguard coverage generally ended in late September, though North Myrtle Beach Ocean Rescue keeps guards posted on duty through October 31. Families visiting state parks can also present a paid admission receipt from Myrtle Beach State Park for same-day entry into Huntington Beach State Park.

The weekend game schedule is heavily back-loaded, leaving plenty of daylight for the shore. Friday night features local high school matchups, followed by South Carolina hosting Kentucky at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday in Columbia. On Saturday night, Coastal Carolina hosts Georgia Southern at 7:00 p.m. at Brooks Stadium in Conway, while Clemson hosts Miami at 7:30 p.m. Sunday daytime remains completely open for beach activities until the Carolina Panthers kick off against the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football at 8:20 p.m.

Staying local and supporting hometown venues or sports bars keeps spending within Horry County during the early shoulder season. Looking ahead, residents can also plan for the annual Little River ShrimpFest along the historic waterfront on October 10–11.
