Grand Strand Forecast: Warm Sunshine All Week Before Fall Front Arrives Weekend

The Grand Strand will see warm, sunny weather through Friday before a cold front brings crisp fall temperatures and lows near 50 degrees this weekend.

Why this matters locally

The upcoming weather brings a sharp 16-degree drop over the weekend while continuing dry conditions that impact ongoing severe drought and local water conservation rules.

The Grand Strand is set for a week of clear, sunny skies and mild temperatures before a cold front brings a sharp drop in temperatures over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

From Monday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Oct. 16, daytime temperatures across Horry and Georgetown counties will remain warm, reaching around 80 degrees under fully sunny skies. Overnight lows during the workweek will hover in the mid-to-upper 60s. Calm breezes and dry conditions will offer ideal weather for outdoor work, golf, and beach outings.

A cold front arriving Friday night will mark the local shift into autumn. High temperatures on Saturday and Sunday are expected to drop into the mid-60s—roughly a 16-degree drop from Friday—with overnight lows falling close to 50 degrees alongside breezy conditions.

Residents and visitors should prepare for the rapid temperature change over the weekend by wearing layers for evening events and morning outings. Households should check heat pumps and change HVAC filters before turning on heating systems for the first time this season. It is also advised to check on vulnerable neighbors and outdoor pets as overnight temperatures drop.

While the clear weather makes for a pleasant week, the National Weather Service notes that Horry and Georgetown counties remain under a severe drought (D2 rating). River flows on the Waccamaw and Little Pee Dee rivers remain near record lows. On Sept. 28, low flow allowed salt water to push up the Waccamaw River, temporarily shutting down the water intake for the Georgetown County Water & Sewer District after salinity reached a 20-year high.

Water conservation rules remain in effect across parts of the region, including mandatory conservation measures in Loris and voluntary conservation in Georgetown. Residents are urged to follow local water use guidelines, water lawns early in the morning to minimize evaporation, and check with the S.C. Forestry Commission before conducting any outdoor yard debris burning due to dry, breezy conditions expected over the weekend.
