Gale Warning Issued for Coastal Waters Near Little River Inlet

The National Weather Service has issued a Gale Warning until 11:00 PM EDT for coastal and offshore waters from Cape Fear to Little River Inlet due to high winds and rough seas.

Why this matters locally

Hazardous wind gusts up to 35 knots and ocean seas up to 9 feet create unsafe conditions that can capsize or damage vessels near the Grand Strand.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina, has issued a Gale Warning for local offshore and coastal waters, including the stretch from Cape Fear to Little River Inlet. Strong east winds and high seas will make ocean conditions hazardous for all marine traffic.

The warning remains in effect through 11:00 PM EDT. Forecasts call for east winds ranging from 15 to 25 knots, with gusts reaching up to 35 knots. Sea heights are expected to build between 6 and 9 feet across coastal waters out to 20 nautical miles, as well as offshore waters extending up to 60 nautical miles from Surf City down to Little River Inlet.

These hazardous marine conditions pose a severe risk to vessels operating along the Grand Strand and lower North Carolina coast. Strong winds and elevated seas can easily capsize or damage craft, while rough ocean spray can significantly reduce visibility on the water.

Mariners, boaters, and commercial fishermen are urged to alter their plans immediately to avoid dangerous ocean travel. Operators should remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course away from the impacted zones, and ensure all vessels are securely moored until conditions improve.
