Gale Warning Active for Grand Strand Coastal Waters Until 6 AM

A Gale Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington remains active for local coastal and offshore waters early Friday morning, September 25, 2026. The marine warning will stay in effect until 6:00 AM EDT.

The warning covers regional marine areas, including coastal waters from Cape Fear to Little River Inlet out 20 nautical miles, as well as the offshore waters stretching from Little River Inlet to the South Santee River from 20 to 60 nautical miles. Nearby coastal waters from Surf City to Cape Fear are also included in the advisory zone.

Forecasters report north winds ranging from 25 to 30 knots, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 knots. Combined with these strong winds, seas are expected to build between 8 and 12 feet across the affected marine zones.

These elevated winds and steep wave conditions produce hazardous seas capable of capsizing or damaging vessels, as well as significantly reducing visibility for operators on the water. Commercial fishermen, recreational boaters, and charter captains operating out of North Myrtle Beach and the surrounding Grand Strand area are strongly advised to take precautions.

Mariners should adjust their plans to stay clear of these dangerous waters. Safety recommendations include remaining docked in port, seeking safe harbor immediately if already out, altering course away from the rough conditions, and ensuring vessels are properly secured against heavy wind and wave action.
