First Strides Beginner Fitness Program Begins Aug. 27 at City Sports Complex

First Strides North Myrtle Beach begins a 12-week walk, jog, and run program for beginners on August 27 at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex.

Why this matters locally

This local fitness initiative gives Grand Strand residents and beginners a guided, affordable way to become physically active under expert and volunteer mentorship.

The City of North Myrtle Beach, in partnership with the Grand Strand Running Club, will host the First Strides North Myrtle Beach beginner fitness program starting Thursday, August 27, 2026. Designed for community members who want to become more physically active but need help getting started, the program guides participants through walking, jogging, or running at a pace comfortable for their personal fitness level.

Weekly sessions will take place every Thursday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., concluding with a final session on Thursday, November 12, 2026. All gatherings are scheduled at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex Amphitheater, located at 150 Citizens Circle in Little River. Each weekly meetup pairs a group walk or run with brief educational topics presented by area experts. Covered subjects include selecting proper shoes, preventing injuries, and basic nutrition.

Female walking and running enthusiasts from the Grand Strand Running Club and other community volunteers will attend every session to encourage and support participants as they build their endurance. The structured schedule builds up to a special 5K graduation event on the final night of the program.

Early registration is set at $40. Program fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. The registration fee includes all expert-led educational sessions, a Grand Strand Running Club membership valued at $20, and a graduation shirt for participants who attend at least eight of the scheduled weekly meetings. Social distancing precautions will be followed during the sessions.

Participants are expected to have their doctor's permission before joining the group. Residents, beginners, and anyone looking to improve their health in a supportive local environment can find more information and sign up online by visiting www.FirstStridesNMB.com.
